As soon as you start your new job, you will be eligible to join the Civil Service pension arrangements. We’re an employer that’s happy to talk about flexible working and depending on the needs of your role, we can consider flexible working patterns including part-time, job share, term-time working and condensed hours. Some of our people also have a formal flexible working arrangement enabling them to work remotely, either on a permanent or regular basis. However, if your role allows, you’ll have the opportunity to work from home on an ad hoc basis too.

We can also offer you flexible working hours to help you manage your working day in a way that suits us and you. Of course, the amount of flexibility varies depending on your role and operational needs, but in many cases you’ll have flexibility to arrange your working day, helping you to balance work and home life.

As a permanent and full time member of staff you’ll have 31 days paid holiday a year and 11 days public and privilege holidays a year (if you don’t work standard hours you will receive a pro-rata entitlement proportionate to your working pattern). We also allow you to sell back up to four days of paid holiday each year.

We offer a range of generous family leave options to support you in managing family life, whether that be Maternity, Co-Parental (Paternity), Adoption or Shared Parental leave. We also have a career break policy that enables you to take up to five years away from work on unpaid leave if you decide to take a break from work to study or travel, to undertake voluntary work, or to focus on caring responsibilities.

As a bilingual organisation we also run regular in-house Welsh language training for learners of all levels.

We also offer coaching, mentoring, job shadowing and secondment opportunities, financial assistance and leave for you to pursue externally delivered training as well as further and higher education qualifications. Alongside your line manager and members of the Human Resources team, our confidential Employee Assistance Scheme service, Occupational Health Adviser and staff networks <link to our values page> you will also have the opportunity to become a member of one of our recognised Trade unions – Public and Commercial Services (PCS), IPMS/Prospect and First Division Association (FDA).

The three unions work together to negotiate terms and conditions like our pay system and health and safety arrangements. We have full-time union officers working on-site, who can give confidential advice on all work-related issues, and that can represent you if they have problems at work.

We have a range of schemes in place to support you with your commute to work, including a cycle to work scheme (that allows you to make savings on the purchase of a bike and accessories), access to car parking facilities (with a minimal charge based on your pay band) and interest free season ticket loans if you use public transport. You can also access secure cycle racks and onsite shower facilities.

Our canteen provides daily meal options for all dietary requirements, we have a small shop where you can grab a snack or a coffee and we even have a post office onsite.

There are also kitchen facilities where you can prepare your own food as well as showers where you can freshen up after your cycle to work or lunchtime exercise.

The majority of our staff are based in Cardiff Bay, a vibrant waterfront area with a range of amenities including the Wales Millennium Centre, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, gyms and shops. Cardiff Bay is easily accessible by car or public transport and is also well-connected to cycle and walking routes.
